76 Years and Still Kicking!

The Rockettes are amazing. Talk about a brand! These ladies have been part of the New York City scene since 1932 and while the show has been updated over the years, the Rockettes have stayed the same.

Radio City Music Hall is a New York institution and nevermore so then at the holidays when they put on their Christmas Spectacular. My sister remembers when our Granny would take us every year to see the show. We'd be standing in line in the cold and Granny would pull her inside her fur coat to stay warm. It was a grand adventure for us - the place was a palace, the organs on either side of the stage were huge, the scenery all sparkly and the Rockettes were perfect.

Not much has changed! Yes, the show now has a 3-D scene (Santa tells you to put on those glasses and jump on the sleigh with him - sort of like those rides in Busch Gardens or Disney; and a scene where a double decker bus looks like it driving down 5th Avenue to Central Park... But you know that at some point in the show the Rockettes are going to line up and swing around in that straight line like ice skaters; dress like wooden soldiers and slowly fall across the stage; and of course, line up and do those high kicks in unison. And they don't let you down.

The manger scene is also still iln the show complete with live animals and flying angels.

There is nothing else like it anywhere else in the world - this is the quintessential New York holiday show. If you don't leave the theater smiling and ready for the holidays, well then bah humbug to you!
