New Year's Resolutions
Sure why not? What's the rule that resolutions can only be done on December 31st? Does that mean the rest of the year we're not supposed to make changes in our lives? Doesn't seem quite fair does it? Plus, it puts an awful lot of pressure on a person to have to commit to making changes in a post-holiday doldrum.
Companies do this too. They make marketing plans, create strategic plans, build budgets and prepare projections at the end of the year. Most of the time this is done in the last quarter amidst the stress of meeting year end projections and the company christmas party.
But I digress. Here are what my resolutions aren't - it's not to lose weight, it's to eat right. It's not to go to the gym every morning, it's to be active every day. It's not to read the great novel, it's go join a book club. It's not to get more sleep, it's to take a nap if I want to.
As a great american once said - I am what I am. So why do resolutions at all? Because we have to keep growing and part of that is challenging ourselves to learn something new, try something different, see just how far we can go out on that limb.
Companies can do this too. And should.
So I guess I'll be going to the gym in the morning.
